Emma Guthrie
(She/Her)
Toddler Assistant
I was born at home in a small town in Michigan, USA. My parents raised my sister and me to love and respect the Earth and Mother Nature. During my teen years, my family made the move to New York. Here is where I finished high school and have since begun to grow roots in the Catskills.
My introduction to Montessori started with my aunt in Michigan – she is a lead guide at a Montessori school there and has been an educator for as long as I can remember. I had the opportunity to be an assistant at the school’s daycare program, and I loved it. I was drawn to the way that the children seemed to be so aware of themselves, their feelings, and their individual needs. I loved the way the children felt free to move about the classroom with independence. I learned so much about myself and Montessori there. When I returned to New York, I stayed involved in childcare by applying my experience to working as a nanny.
I love the way children see the world, and I feel so grateful to be able to be in the presence of such an outlook on life. I am trained in Montessori Beginnings, zero to three months, from the Center for Guided Montessori Studies. Since my training, my love and care for this period in a child’s life have only grown stronger.
Outside of work, I enjoy collecting houseplants, doing ceramic projects, playing soccer, trying new foods, meeting new people, being in nature, and playing with my cats. One might also find me browsing the local farmers' markets during summer or skiing in winter.
