6–9-Year-Old Intern Guide

I grew up exploring nature along the Chesapeake Bay. My Montessori journey began as a child in a small children’s house, and it shaped how I saw the world and connected with land. Montessori supported my desire to express respect, empathy, and a sense of shared existence with the environment. I lean on nature to guide me through life, and that shapes my teaching style. I felt a great sense of resonance when I arrived at CMS; it felt like a homecoming to others who are invested in community care and honoring the relationship with the natural world. I am honored to steward this land alongside my husband, Todd, and our baby, who we know will be welcomed into our community with open arms.

After receiving my B.A. in Elementary Education, I joined Americorps and volunteered with the Maryland Conservation Corps. I immersed myself in environmental education, trail construction, invasive species removal, and park maintenance. This work motivated me to become a Park Ranger with the Maryland Park Service and to get my M.S. in Parks and Conservation Management. Being a Ranger is one of the most rewarding paths I’ve taken and has shaped my educational philosophy. I hope that while people learn and live as a guest on this land, they also begin a journey of environmental stewardship and that we strive to see the value of our interconnections in the ecosystem.

I am grateful to continue the journey with the Monarchs this year while pursuing my 6-9 Elementary training to honor my desire to share with more of our CMS community. I look forward to expanding my knowledge and offering more of my passion for education.
